As she tells the story, Norton High senior Brooke-Lynn Williams hung up from her call with Penn State sprint coach Erin Tucker — and waited.

 

For the next two hours, she walked around the family home with her cellphone clutched in her hand, waiting for the ringtone to go off. When it finally did, the conversation was short and sweet.

For Braintree, playing its fourth game in five days, mailing it in and vowing to step it up in its next game would have been understandable.

In Sharon’s tennis success, boys and girls together

It was a history-making year on the sports front at Sharon High School.

 

Not only did the girls’ tennis team win its first-ever state championship, going undefeated (25-0) in the process, but the boys’ squad put up a dominant year as well, winning 23 matches in row before coming up short against wayland in the state final.

Hanover rugby starts and ends with the Boutin brothers

With time running out, Hanover led Milton, 24-20, June 10 at Beverly’s Endicott College in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys Rugby Division 2 state championship.

 

Rian Boutin, a junior half scrum for Hanover, grabbed the ball and ran untouched into the end zone, upping the score to 29-20. After rising to his feet, he turned to the referee.

A first for Sharon, Wayland girls: State tennis titles

Rithika Neti and Sophia Fein had just secured the final point of their 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 victory at second doubles in Wednesday’s Division 1 girls’ tennis final. Less than 15 seconds later, the pair were joined by the rest of their Sharon teammates, screaming and cheering, to celebrate the team’s third point, the clincher for the program’s first state championship.

 

Sharon capped a 25-0 season with a 3-2 victory over Longmeadow at St. John’s Shrewbury.

Wiser by a year, Duxbury girls seek state golf title

The Duxbury girls golf team had three goals this season.

 

First, to win the Patriot League title.

 

Done.

 

Second, to qualify for the state championship for a second season in a row.

Marshfield’s Elise Keane takes South Sectional golf medalist honors

Elise Keane turned in her scorecard on Tuesday afternoon after completing her round in the MIAA Girls’ South golf championship at Ridder Farms Golf Course in East Bridgewater.

 

Then the Marshfield High senior waited. Would her 4-over-par 75 hold up?

North Reading girls repeat as Division 4 track champions

The North Reading girls repeated as Eastern Massachusetts Division 4 track and field champion on Sunday afternoon.

 

But their encore was not decided until the final event of the day, the 4x400-meter relay at Norwell High.

 

Entering the relay, the Hornets held a 5-point lead over Amesbury, the favorite to win the race.
